REPLACING ROOF MAY BE REMODELING PROJECT THAT YIELDS THE MOST IN RESALE VALUE TO YOUR HOME

When it comes to any relatively major home improvement project people are hopeful that they will recoup their investment should they decide to sell their home.

We came across an article in the Washington Post on a report from the National Association of Realtors where they assessed “the return” on various home improvement projects, and replacing your roof was on top. (See what we did there…roof…on top)

Anyway, the first “Remodeling Impact Report” from the National Association of Realtors and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry(NARI) surveyed agents and remodelers to determine the resale value and owner satisfaction of various remodeling projects.

Remodeling projects were ranked by ones that had the greatest cost recovery and then combined that with a “Joy Score” based on owners’ happiness with the results of their project.

The five projects out of the 20 reviewed that had the greatest cost recovery, including the new roof, are refinishing hardwood flooring, insulation upgrade,  new wood floor,  and a new garage door.
